We
have propagated
all our
plants by
cuttings.
We make
cuttings
from healthy ‘mother’ plants
and keep
them in
a frost-free
and well
ventilated
place for
approximately
8 weeks,
keeping
the sand/perlite
mixture
sufficiently
damp to
prevent
them from
dying out.
Once
the cuttings
have taken
root and
frost is
not a threat
we move
them into
our shade
house where
they will
continue
to strengthen
and mature.
After
about 4
weeks the
plants are
then ready
to be planted
in the field,
where they
will continue
to get enough
irrigation
water to
keep the
roots damp.
Although
lavender
is a "drought-tolerant" plant,
the first
year is
crucial.
In our climate
water is
needed to
keep the
plant healthy
and strong
during this
critical
time.
