Oils are extracted
using steam
distillation.
The distiller
is said to have
been invented
by the Arabs
in the 4th century
and has been
considerably
improved upon
since.
Harvesting
and distillation
occurs when
the flowers
have reached
the peak
of their
bloom and
our master
distiller
determines
it’s
time to
cut and
distill.
Typically
distillation
begins in
early June
and continues
into mid
July. The
distillery
is open
to viewers
and on weekends
you can
meet the
distiller
and learn
about distillation.
The
Equipment
There
are four basic components to a
steam distillation system: the
steam source, the stillpot or
retort, the condenser and a separator.
